The last Internet Domain Survey just came out. You can observe there the most popular domains on the Internet. The popularity index is assessed through the number of hosts (that is, number of unique computer addresses contacted when a domain or a website is called up)
The top 3 domains should come as no surprise: .net, .com and .jp. The .us suffix –ranking 40th- is underrepresented in favor of the ubiquitous .com. At the other end of the rank, only two and one hosts were respectively recorded with the Palau (.pw) and Mayotte (.yt) domain. For those of you asking yourselves –as I did- where the hell is Mayotte, Wikipedia, as usual, has the answer.
By the way, .yt registrations are delegated to the registry for France, but they are currently suspended.
