On June 1st, StubHub released its own free app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This app provides many of the services and bells and whistles that are included on the actual StubHub website.
Applications include search and purchasing functions, seat maps, and quantity and pricing filters. Purchases can be made through the new app using your existing StubHub account, PayPal, or by saving your credit card info within the app.
What's really cool is that the new app supplies a listing of all the closest FedEx kinkos in the immediate area using GPS technology. This provides users a no-hassle way to purchase tickets and immediately print them in a nearby area.
Furthermore, the app allows users to sync up their iTunes library with StubHub so that they receive notifications when their favorite bands come to town. The app also allows users to send ticket updates and notifications to friends via email, Facebook and Twitter.
This is StubHub's first attempt to enter the mobile e-commerce arena. While its too early to see
how successful the launch will be, this app makes total sense and should be very successful in my opinion.
Now the only thing left for StubHub to do is to figure out how we can get into venues by having venues scan our e-tickets directly from our iPhones. It probably won't take them very long.

As an avid StubHub user, this app strikes me as only half-complete. By "user" I mean "seller"--and the app is not designed at all to help sellers of tickets--the all important supply-side of StubHub's business. This follows a more general trend (understandable but frustrating) in app development--providers are always going to go after the buyers, but seem hesitant and slow to provide ways for others to utilize the apps for monetization purposes. With the new launch of Apple's iAds, maybe developers will get a taste of their own medicine...
