Facebook's New Privacy Setting

Pete Cashmore Discusses Facebook’s New Privacy Settings on PBS

Series of negative events occurred recently reveal users' discontent toward Facebook's privacy and security of personal information. While more and more social networks are providing platforms for people to exchange their experiences and information, the security of online experiences would soon become a very important issues. In the past few events, the attitude that Facebook showed was quite strong and resulted in users' anger. As the early mover of social networks, Facebook indeed owns competitive advantages in the market. However, it doesn't promise it could remain its competitiveness in the long run. Most people are having social networking in several different platforms and more innovative social media are appearing to attract more attentions. Facebook should change its attitude and try to convince people its promise to become protector of personal information, or users' loyalty may reduce and result in its market share loss.
