It has been a common phenomenon to see airlines to create their profiles on Facebook and Twitter though under different levels. Social media provides a low cost but powerful platform for companies to promote their products/services and communicate with customers on real time.
Nowadays, people can buy cheap last minute tickets within a limited time from Twitter thanks to United Airlines's "Twares" program launched in May 2009.

Followed by "Tware", JetBlue also opened its twitter ticket booking platform "Cheeps", and tickets could be as low as $10.http://twitter.com/jetbluecheeps
These programs helped United and JetBlue to boost their followers to 87,770 and 56,625 respectively. There is a significant impact on developing their key segment market like younger generation.
It's more like an idea combined the social media functions of "Twitter" and e-commerce functions of "eBay". Very efficient service and attractive deal!
