Wechat on the Rise

Launched in 2011, Wechat dominates China social media app market.    It's massive and holistic functionality, including text message chat, voice message chat, voice call, video call, group chat, post sharing, games, payment, official accounts, files transfer, etc., as the combination of Facebook, Line, Groupme, Instagram, Twitter, and Venmo, captivates half billion users and thereby creates unbeatable network effect in China.  Wechat has been continuously upgrading with new features with expectation of increasing over 40% user base next year in China market where I believe Wechat would keep building the holistic ecosystem to wipe out the small players.   And I would believe Wechat would aggressively reach the global market. Starting from the emerging market without dominates players, as well as the Chinese-speaking community, such as Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia, would be less costy and easier.  For the markets with incumbents, such as What’s app and Line, developing stronger point of difference and unique point of penetration would be the key to reach and get favored by the oversea consumers.
