Google has once again been accused of violating anti-trust
legislation, this time in Russia. Russia’s antimonopoly agency believes the
firm may have acted unfairly in bundling its various products and services in
its Android operating system.
This is not the first time Google has been accused of
violating anti-trust laws. Although the recent accusations stem from a
complaint lodged by Russia’s largest search engine, Yandex, to Russian
authorities, the firm has also received similar complaints from EU regulators.
Over the last 5 years, EU authorities have accused Google of
prioritizing its own products and services in search listings, most notably
Google Shopping. As Google continues to expand and offer increased services and
products, it will have to walk a fine line in regards to how it uses its existing
products to cross-sell and bundle new products without attracting the attention
of regulators.
