MySpace Redesign Makes a Big Splash

Think MySpace is dead? Well it is, technically, but a recently released promo video suggests that the once-popular social network might be posed for a comeback. Venturebeat has an in-depth profile on the remaking of "Myspace" (the S is lowercase now!), which is now owned and operated by Specific Media. The Vanderhook brothers' advertising agency bought Myspace in the summer of 2011 and have been stealthily redesigning the site until the release of this video, which has "people all around the web talking". While that quote and the overall tone of the profile sounds like quite the puff-piece, the video is indeed intriguing and worth the watch.

The new site is supposed to be a platform for "creatives" to interact and share content with their fan base. And with Justin Timberlake as a co-investor in the company, it's likely Myspace has the right connections to bring in the big players and make this dream a reality. One thing the article fails to address, however, is the business model. The new design, as shown in the video, is quite stunning, but notice that there are no advertisements anywhere. Will these just come in later once usage is up? Will "creatives" be paying to use the site, or specific features? It'll probably be a while before we find out, if we ever do.
