Targeting Facebook Influencers

Following on last class where we talking about the targeting available for online ads, this article talks about targeting on facebook. SocialCode, a Strategic Preferred Marketing Developer for Facebook (wow! what a title!), has developed a technology to create influencer segments in order to help facebook advertisers better target users with their ads. This company uses the content Facebook users publish to their NewsFeeds to create vertical categories e.g. auto, consumer electronics, fashion, health and beauty, food and beverage, retail and travel. I guess it's somewhat comforting that they use this "public" information as opposed to other snooping, but it is yet another example of trying to target people who are more likely to engage with a brand as opposed to just "liking" a page--which we've seen to actually have little value.
