Skyscraper Start-up: Helping Bloggers Monetize
A profile of Skyscraper today on TechCrunch features a video explaining how bloggers can use their service to sell ad space directly to advertisers. Their tool allows bloggers to create ad inventory with a drag and drop interface. It auto-generates a personalized media kit overviewing the site, listing advertisement capabilities, and manages payment and invoicing directly.
Skyscaper assumes of course that advertisers will continue to find value in placing banner or skyscaper ads on to more niche blog sites. Although it does also claim to offer services to monetize sponsored content, email & RSS, affiliate, video and mobile. These additional services may prove to be the most lucrative. There is certainly a need in helping connect advertisers to the massive bloggosphere who are already connected directly with consumers. However, it remains to be seen how advertisers might best use this access. Sponsored content strikes me as the one with the most potential.
There are a number of new start-ups in the blogger monetization space right now - including one on our class project roster, Wizpert. This start-up gives bloggers a built-in widget for their site allowing them to use their expertise to directly chat with readers and charge for this service.
