Get Ready For a New Era of E-Commerce In 2013: Instant Gratification

Next year, in 2013, the brick and mortar's stores unique value prop of "instant gratification", or the ability to recieve what you purchased for instantly, will take a strong hit from Shutl.com, a London-based firm that promises to deliver online purchases within minutes of sale, starting in New York and San Francisco.

Tom Allason, Shutl founder, believes that once people realize they can get instant gratification,  they'll demand it. Shutl will deliver goods bought online from retailers who have brick and mortar stores within 10 miles of the delivery address. The service uses foot, bike, and vehicle couriers to get goods from point A to point B. Shutl intends on using messengers at existing courier services, piggybacking on their existing capacity and re-selling it at higher prices.

Shutl is already profitable in the U.K., serving 60 towns and more than 65% of UK households. Allason believes the US market is atleast double that of the UK. He also told TechCrunch that the quick delivery market in the U.S.is expected to reach $26 billion by 2016.
