A recent study from Nielsen found that the use of social media exploded in 2012, with Pinterest leading the way at 1698% growth year over year. US users spent 121 billion minutes on social media in July, a 37% increase compared to one year ago. About 20% of the time on social media was spent on the PC, and 30% via mobile devices.
Use of incumbent social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter was resilient despite new entrants, and overall internet connections continued to rise, with the advent of tablets, internet-enabled TV, and other emerging technologies.
This article highlights the continued double-digit growth trends in the digital media arena, which bodes well for digital marketing going forward.
