A branded TV channel

American Express is launching an interactive TV channel that is set to reach 50 million homes through a number of traditional cable providers. The channel will provide content that includes video clips, offers, games and information about American Express cards and promotions like Small Business Saturday.

There has been talk for a long time of interactive TV but this is probably one of the biggest bets I've heard about, particularly from a big name brand. This experiment really shows AmEx is placing big bets on e-commerce and even trying to introduce "t-commerce" which is e-commerce through tv.

I will be very surprised if this is successful but I think it's a really interesting move and something that needs to be tried instead of just continuing to be talked about. While it may not revolutionize digital marketing, I think t-commerce may become yet another channel for marketers to reach consumers. At the very least, it will be an interesting experiment to watch...
