The Houston Chronicle is
adopting a business model for their online paper that I had not seen in other
places. paidContent reports that in
addition to Houston Chronicle’s free Chron.com site, the paper is launching
HoustonChronicle.com, which is not free.
Chron.com will still contain things like breaking news, weather, traffic and
event info, while the new site will include more in-depth reporting, well-known
columns, and everything else found in the print version. The article notes that the Boston Globe is doing something similar. This will be an interesting business model for other
newspapers to watch.
