Internet Explorer 10 - "Do Not Track"

As we've been discussing in class - many of the latest and greatest digital marketing companies have been successful largely in part to "cookies" which install on your desktop and very quietly track all of your adventures on the web. While we can manually delete cookies or disable tracking mechanisms, it's far from simple or intuitive to do so. The latest version of IE will now come preset with the "do not track" option. How will this actually work? And will third party ad trackers actually not track. Since this is presented as more of a "please don't track me" vs. the third party actually cannot track. Ad Age shows screen shots of the latest:

Most importantly if some sort of privacy laws are actually passed and implemented, how do third party ad trackers continue to make their value prop? Or, at this point are users so disconnected from their actual privacy choices that few people will actually elect not to be tracked. That's my bet - my money's still on these digital marketing ad trackers/servers.
