Platfora & Hadoop: a Big Data revolution

As more companies embrace digital channels, the amount of data they are collecting, such as e-mails, customer information, videos, etc, has ballooned to an unforeseen size.  One of the biggest challenges these data-driven companies now face is being able to process this large amount of data, especially when it comes in various formats.  Processing this data could unlock powerful analytics that can be used to optimize business processes or customer strategy.  A new data processing technology developed in the last couple of years called Hadoop has made a splash in the Big Data scene by allowing businesses to start making some sense of their large and messy data sets by giving them the power to process them easily and inexpensively.  Businesses that have made use of Hadoop include Facebook, Yahoo, Ebay, and LinkedIn.  However, the big problem with the traditional Hadoop system is that it generally takes a long time to process certain queries and analytics to derive valuable insight, making it hard for every-day business users to interact with it.  A new Big Data start-up called Platfora is claiming to launch a new technology that works with Hadoop and will enable faster processing and analyzing, making Hadoop technologies more user-friendly.  If Platfora delivers on its promise, this technology has the potential to revolutionize the way businesses perceive big data, and may uncover new, real-time insights on their business.
