Viacom Hires Digital Agency Veteran to Bolster Advanced TV Ad Targeting Business
Viacom is hiring a Digital Agency veteran to improve the traditional, Nielsen-driven advertising standard. Viacom hopes for their TV ads to work more like digital ads in terms of precision targeting and measurement.
I think this is a positive, forward looking move for Viacom in order to move past the antiquated standards of TV advertising. Digital ads are able to specifically target by demographic, location, and time. For TV this is more difficult and certainly can not be quite as precise in the near term. However in the future there is a way that you specific advertising on the TV could be based on the individual subscriber with data the the cable company knows or could start collecting.
