Influencer Marketing

Recently I saw a video in which the presenter spoke about the impact of influencers on digital marketing. Important takeaways from the video were:

1. Influencers are people whom people trust and it takes time to build trust. Instead of creating a plan to become an influencer, find appropriate influencers to partner with.

2. Influencers range from people with millions of followers to those with two or three hundred thousand followers. It is better to partner with influencers with followers in the niche or industry you are targeting even if they have a relatively small following.

3. The presenter used the example of PewDiePie (real name Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg), a 27 year old college dropout with $52 million followers on YouTube. His videos are commentary on various games that he play. Even though his videos are goofy and filled with profanity, his followers see him as authentic, unfiltered and trustworthy. It is the trust that makes influencer marketing work.
