Cyber Monday is the new Black

A recent survey by CreditDonkey.com finds that a growing 57% of Americans plan to shop cyber monday and only 41% will be shopping on Black Friday. This indicates a decline in physical shopping that will likely be made up in online says. Some retailers with a large online presence are also shifting much of their "deals" or excitement to their website. eMarketer also forecasts that this year, online holiday season sales (including all online sales during November and December) will reach $54.47 billion, up 16.8% over 2011 levels. The Cyber monday phenomenon is also sprouting up many digital marketing opportunities. Retailers are likely working with their marketers around the clock to create the millions of emails that will push deals to consumers, display ads, and paid search around "cyber monday deals."

There's even a cottage industry for cyber monday deal aggregation. Check-out http://www.cybermonday2012.com and http://www.bestcybermonday.com to scope out deals. Or, major retailers are likely to have their own web section profiling deals. And, check your emails!

Similar commentary from Mediapost.com's article "Less Store Traffic as Black Friday Shifts to Cyberspace." More stores will start holiday sales Thursday evening as well as offer more deals online. While foot traffic is expected to decline, Black Friday sales are still expected to increase 3% and Cyber Monday sales are expected to increase another 4% above last year's sales figures.

Not suprisingly, consumers are more likely to keep track of deals on digital devices. 27% of consumers will use retailer websites and another 31% will use emails to keep track of promotions.

During the holidays, websites such as PoachIt.com (which we are doing for our group project), would be extremely helpful in aggregating promotions/deals on specific items of interest. The website tracks a specific item on a retailer's website and sends you the coupon code/promotion when the price changes.
