Machinima: A YouTube channel for the 'lost boys'

Machinima--ever heard of it? Well I hadn't until this morning, but apparently it's a big deal and growing. Machinima (pronounced ma-SHIN-i-ma) is a Web and mobile distribution network that delivers free game-oriented shows, trailers and news reports. It's the latest effort to target the 'lost boys', guys 18-34 who have become increasingly elusive in this world of fragmented media consumption.

Machinima teaches us that content is still king. As Allen DeBevoise, Machinima’s chief executive says, “high-quality content is better marketing than traditional advertising; if it’s the equivalent of what people would watch on their own anyway, fans really appreciate that.” It also shows the evolution of high quality, long-form content becoming increasingly available on YouTube. I think brands should definitely keep a close eye on this one!
