According to Sharon Otterman, the Chief Marketing Officer of MSNBC, "Social media is important to mobilize the nation, but it's still about one handshake, touching one person and going out to local markets." With that idea in mind, MSNBC plans to bring its MSNBC experience to New York City at the NBC Experience store in Rockefeller Center on Monday and Tuesday night. (If you are around NYC next week, you should check it out -- I think I will!) While social media has been an extremely significant marketing tool for news organizations, MSNBC believes that establishing a one-on-one relationship with viewers is critical to becoming a brand, not just a TV network. Previously MSNBC had set-up the MSNBC experience in Charlotte, NC where some viewers drove for more than 3 hours to interact with the brand.
