Cash transactions in a mobile retail world

The fast adoption of cloud-based solutions and more and more advanced mobile devices represent an untapped new set of opportunities for retailers to improve and optimize the way they serve and engage customers.
An interesting article about this, posted today by Paul St. George,  engineering manager at APG Cash Drawer, explores the way this 2 worlds (ITC and Retail) combine together to change the shape and rules of how we consume and how retailer sell and spoil customers.
Among the various features analyzed in the articles, a major focus is dedicated to the shift from the traditional cash registers to the Apple-like mobile cash register system, allowing retailers to "bring the transaction to the shopper at their point of purchase. In this way, a retailer can increase shopper loyalty by providing a more convenient, more personalized, and more interactive transaction experience". Starting from here, the article explores how to enable also cash payments in this kind of environment as well as higher security levels, by modifying the IT system paradigms, introducing IP-enabled cash drawers, printers, and cameras.
I found the article very much illuminating in terms of where we can move forward with the deployment of technology.
I strongly encourage those interested in the topic to have a look at it.
