How to Solve Mobile Ads "Monetization Problem"

A report published recently attempts to address the discrepancy between ad dollars spent on mobile and the amount of time someone looks at the ad. This is one new media that is still being figured out and the nut has definitely not yet been cracked. Some advise that the article provides includes: improving customer targets, focusing on local advertising, improved ad tracking and audience demographic information, and improving accidental links. There is a lot of room for improvement here - I think that one ad I saw that used a lot of the elements here over this past summer was an iAd for Popsicle. It popped up on weather.com only when the temperature was above a certain amount and directed consumers to the nearest location where he / she could get a Popsicle.
