Some consumers were turned off by retailers offering
shopping discounts online during Hurricane Sandy. As the Huffington Post reports, stores
including American Apparel, Gap, and Urban Outfitters offered storm
promotions. American Apparel asked
shoppers to enter the promotional code “SANDYSALE” at checkout. Maybe not surprisingly, some found this to be
quite distasteful. Forbes shows a tweet
of one consumer who has vowed to never shop at the store again and encourages
others to do the same. The publication
points out though that this increased exposure for the consistently controversial brand
may not be such a bad thing. For the others, the exposure may not be as beneficial.
